Madeline Rogero needs to ride close call to finish line
By Georgiana Vines
Madeline Rogero came close to winning outright the Knoxville mayoral race in Tuesday's primary.
But there are 29 provisional ballots yet to be added—a number that doesn't appear to be enough to push her over the edge.
So in the likely Nov. 8 runoff with political newcomer Mark Padgett, Rogero will have to continue building her base of widespread support throughout the city and try not to stumble on any issues.
Victor Ashe, former Knoxville mayor who went out of office eight years ago after holding the position longer than anyone, said Rogero ran a masterful campaign that avoided controversy in the primary.
But the race starts anew today if there is a runoff, Ashe said.
